La Farmacia sells prescription and over the counter drugs. They also sell a variety of products, from vitamins to shampoo and beauty products. You can recognize a pharmacy by its characteristic green cross. Most pharmacies accept Bancomat (cash card) and major credit cards (VISA and Mastercard). Most pharmacies close at night, lunch time, and holidays. Some offer round the clock service or take turns to stay open.

Anyone in Italy is entitled to free emergency medical care. If you're planning to live in Italy, you should sign up with the national sanitary service. Italy offers medical coverage to every resident, regardless of nationality, occupation, and financial status. This is one of the best social medical coverage models in Europe. Even foreigners with no regular papers are entitled to medical coverage.
