Italian Radio

Three state owned stations: RAI-1 (1332 AM or 89.7 FM), RAI-2 (846 AM or 91.7 FM) and RAI-3 (93.7 FM). They combine classical and light music with news and discussion programs. Commercial radio stations are a better choice if you are looking for contemporary music. The most famous ones are Radio Deejay (90,3FM - 101FM - www.deejay.it) and Radio Italia Network (98.700 FM, www.rin.it).

VATICAN RADIO

1530 AM, 93.3 FM, 105 FM
English news: 7am, 8:30am, 6:15pm, 9:50. Broadcasts in other languages too. The radio is at the center of a serious controversy because of strong broadcast antennas near inhabited areas. Many children are supposedly sick or dead because of Vatican's refusal to deal with the issue.

RAI-2

846 AM or 91.7 FM
Broadcasts news in English every day from 1 to 5 at three minutes past the hour.

Italian Television

There are few chances that a foreigner living in Rome will find Italian television particularly attractive. If you want more, you'll need to get satellite television.

There are seven main national networks. They are:
RAI 1, RAI 2, RAI 3, Rete 4, Italia 1, Canale 5, La 7.

Cable Television
There is no cable television in Italy. Only Fastweb offers some kind of cable TV through broadband internet, if you subscribe to the entire package.

Satellite television
There is only one company: Sky Tv (born in 2003 by the merge between Tele + and Stream). It offers digital satellite television with a somewhat better choice of channels and all italian soccer matches.

Italian Television on Internet
Many RAI programs, including news, are available on broadband internet. This is quite a well organized and innovative service by any international standards. An interesting option for those wanting to watch Italian programs from abroad.
