Poliedrico artista; attore, regista, compositore e produttore cinematografico, Clint Eastwood è nato San Francisco, da una famiglia protestante con origini irlandesi, scozzesi, olandesi e inglesi.
Abbiamo assistito all’anteprima di Sully, l’ultimo lungometraggio in cui Eastwood si dimostra un grande regista che governa a perfezione la macchina da presa. Alle spalle opere quali  ‘Mystic River’, ‘Gran Torino’ e ‘Million Dollar Baby’, con cui si aggiudica due statuette per miglior film e miglior regia.

Attraverso Sully il regista decide di raccontarci il miracolo del fattore umano e l’impresa di un grande comandante.

Il 15 gennaio del 2009, il mondo assiste al “Miracolo sull’Hudson” quando il capitano “Sully” Sullenberger compie un ammaraggio d’emergenza col suo aereo nelle acque gelide del fiume Hudson, salvando la vita a tutti i 155 passeggeri presenti a bordo. Tuttavia, anche se Sully viene elogiato dall’opinione pubblica e dai media, considerando la sua come un’impresa eroica senza precedenti, alcune indagini sulla decisione presa, minacciano di distruggere la sua reputazione e la sua carriera.

Il film diretto da Eastwood si basa sulla sceneggiatura di Todd Komarnicki, tratta dal libro Highest Duty scritto dallo stesso Sullenberger e Jeffrey Zaslow. I produttori sono Clint Eastwood, Frank Marshall, Allyn Stewart e Tim Moore, mentre Kipp Nelson e Bruce Berman sono i produttori esecutivi.

SULLY: Nessuno ci ha avvisati. Nessuno ci ha detto della perdita di entrambi i motori all’altitudine più bassa nella storia dell’aviazione. “Prepararsi all’impatto – giù la testa, state giù!”

Poco dopo il decollo dall’aeroporto LaGuardia di New York, uno stormo di uccelli colpisce il volo della US Airways 1549, provocando un’avaria ad entrambi i motori a soli 2800 piedi, seguita da un immediato ammaraggio d’emergenza. Un evento senza precedenti. “Nessuno era mai stato addestrato per una simile situazione”, osserva Tom Hanks, nei panni del capitano Chesley Sullenberger in “Sully”, del regista e produttore Clint Eastwood.

Oltre a narrare i fatti realmente accaduti in quella fredda giornata del gennaio 2009, il film esplora le sue reali conseguenze. L’aereo trasportava 150 passeggeri e cinque membri dell’equipaggio, e nessuno di loro ha perso la vita: né in aria, né in acqua. Ma, come rivela “Sully”, nei giorni successivi a quello che rapidamente divenne noto come il ‘Miracolo sull’Hudson’, il pilota con alle spalle anni di esperienza e comprovata professionalità, capace di estrema calma di fronte alla potenziale catastrofe, verrà chiamato più volte a difendere le sue azioni di fronte al National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), un’agenzia investigativa indipendente del Governo degli Stati Uniti che indaga ed emette rapporti in merito agli incidenti che coinvolgono aeroplani, navi, treni, oleodotti e gasdotti.

Clint Eastwood dichiara: “Chiunque sia in grado di prendere delle decisioni quando le cose vanno male, e che possa risolvere un problema senza farsi prendere dal panico, è una persona degna di esser rappresentata in un film. Ma per me, il vero conflitto è avvenuto dopo, quando vengono messe in discussione le sue decisioni malgrado abbia salvato tante vite”.

“Non sono un pilota – dice Tom Hanks – ma immagino che nessuno sia necessariamente in grado di compiere un atterraggio del genere. Il capitano Sully è stato pragmatico, e ha capito i rischi di ciò che ha fatto e che cosa ha significato. Non si considera un eroe, ma era davvero sicuro di potercela fare? È stato il suo gesto ad essere eroico, ma ne ha pagato il prezzo”.
