Roman Restaurants: Our Choice

TRAM-TRAM
by Alessandro Antimiani

What do you think about a place where you can go for several years, eating at the same level of quality and choosing always among usual meals?
For me, who did it, it means one of the best place to eat in Rome. The cuisine isn’t typical roman but the recipes came from Puglia and Sicily, magnificently mixed, you can taste a wonderful pasta with calamaretti (little squids) and pesto or with zucchine (vegetable marrows) e gamberi (shrimps). If it’s the right season, autumn, the Norma’s pasta it’s great too. My best, after pasta, are the involtini (rolls) of sword-fish or, if you are not so hungry after pasta, you can try grated potatoes or “cicoria ripassata” (vegetables boiled and put in a pan with garlic, oil and chilli).
But Tram-Tram offers, also, one of the best “crema al limone” (lemon cream) of the human universe and the surrounding area, so take a little space in your stomach for the dessert!
To drink, just choose, any wine is good; for the white I suggest the Ribolla Gialla.
Now you can think that it’s all but it isn’t true because one other good point that could force you to choose Tram Tram for a dinner or a lunch (it’s open all days for lunch and dinner except Monday) it’s that this trattoria is located in San Lorenzo area, so, if you are awake, you can continue to go around and enjoy yourself all through the night…

CACIO E PEPE
We are talking about the best pasta in Rome (for me) and one of the cheapest, so, what do you want more? This should be enough to make you decide to go.

Do you want more? Ok, you can choose only among 3 o 4 kinds of home-made pasta, cacio e pepe (cheese and black pepper), carbonara, gricia and matriciana (the ordering isn't casual) and after? Just nothing because this place is for a fast good meal before coming back to work (if you go at lunch, as a matter of fact on Sunday it's closed) or before going to live the night.

Unfortunately the location it's in a residential area but I invite you to taste this place (and touch your pocket after eating) and to send us an e-mail about it!

It's simply a challenge, we are waiting to hear your comments about this place…

DA ACHILLE
This real old style trattoria has no sign, so just walk along the street and when you see some tables, a TV and a big man inside a small room, get inside and ask for eating. Just ask for eating because you are in one of the original old place in Rome where the workers were used to go just to eat at lunch time. They don't care about what but just about the price and the quality and these things are exactly what you are going to find at Achille. It's open for lunch and dinner, never on Sunday, but don't go too late.

It's very cheap and as you get inside you will be feeling like passing trough the history of Roma's restaurants. (A.I.)

DA MARCELLO
Are you looking for some place to eat in San Lorenzo? Ok, than you can go to Marcello, one of the most famous (and old) place to eat in this area. It's just on one corner of Piazza dei Campani (don't confuse Marcello with the other restaurant located in the same square) and instead of the sign you can see Pepsi writing on the door. It's a typical trattoria , with a lot of noise inside and with a strong (even not so good) white wine. All the pastas are goods but try the agnolotti alle noci (filled pasta with walnuts) and let us know about it!

It's open till late, never at lunch and on Sunday, but it's often full so take your time if you want to go. The menu it's typical roman and so, after pasta, you can find a lot of meat with tomato sauce. Last but not least the bill is quite light……so welcome to Marcello and good appetite in San Lorenzo!
