11 July @ 10:30 - 14 July @ 18:30 UTC+1
Trani Tango Festival, from 11 to 14 July 2019, the link with Argentina in the sign of Astor Piazzolla is getting stronger
This year the Trani International Tango Festival, now in its seventh edition, scheduled in exactly one month in the Pearl of the Adriatic, from 11 to 14 July 2019, will enjoy another illustrious recognition, that of the Fundacion Astor Piazzolla, accredited by Laura Escalada Piazzolla, wife of the late musician and composer, as well as president of the same foundation, as one of the best tango festivals in the world. The proclamation of the excellent work carried out over the years by Claudia Vernice and Giuseppe Ragno with their cultural association Inmovimento. In fact, since 2012 they have worked hard with the idea of making Trani the capital of tango, in the light of Piazzolla’s Italian ancestry (his grandfather Pantaleone left Trani for Argentina in search of the future), so that this festival was a reference point for all the tangers and lovers of this sensual dance that is both philosophy and lifestyle.
With the patronages of the Apulia Region, Municipality of Trani, Department of Culture of Trani, Embassy of the Argentine Republic, Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto, Casa Argentina, Cultural Office of the Embassy of Argentina in Rome, Fundacion Astor Piazzolla and PiiiL Cultura Puglia 365, a real twinning takes place between Mar del Plata, a small town of Piazzolla, and Trani, the cradle of the composer who brought tangible music to the vast international popular audience. The key to this strong bond is the patronage of the Argentine Embassy, another high profile award.
There is a city in Puglia where people dance to the rhythm of tango. They converge here from the 4 continents to tie themselves in a tangent embrace. This city is Trani. It was the fervent cradle of one of the composers who changed the history of contemporary music: Astor Piazzolla. From his shores the grandfather fisherman of Astor, Pantaleone, left for Argentina in search of the future.
The Pearl of the Adriatic becomes a welcoming port for apparently distant worlds that communicate however in a binary rhythm. For six editions it is “tango mania” in fact for the Tango Festival of Trani, more and more international. Starting in 2012 with the idea of making Trani the capital of tango, in the light of the Piazzolla, Claudia Vernice and Giuseppe Ragno with their cultural association Inmovimento, they worked hard so that this festival was a reference point for all the tangier and fans of this sensual dance that is both philosophy and lifestyle. The link between Trani and Argentina in the sign of tango is indissoluble and this year will be even stronger because the 2019 Tango Festival enjoys the illustrious recognition of the Fundacion Astor Piazzolla, and is credited by Laura Escalada Piazzolla, wife of the late musician and composer, as well as president of the same foundation, as one of the best tango festivals in the world. The patronage of the Embassy of Argentina, another very high profile recognition, is the key to this strong bond.
The tangible proclamation of the excellent work carried out over the years by the organizers that allowed the Festival to become one of the highlights of the Italian summer, also in light of the national echo it records every year.
The link with Argentina is substantiated even more with the presence of the ever-present two-star stars of the international scene, Miguel Angel Zotto, the best tango dancer in the world, and his splendid companion Daiana Guspero. Zotto, in fact, also this year wisely signs the artistic direction of the festival that for 6 years has made people dream of the extraordinary level of the artistic cast.

“If you are melancholy, the tango gently caresses your melancholy, if you are cheerful it is the right soundtrack to project your joy on to others. TANGO is YOU. It is your feelings, your moods, your joys or your sadness to define the color and the meaning. (…) the tango is made like this. It enters the heart passing from the channel opened at that moment and assumes its nature “. Astor Piazzolla
