THE FILM OF BERNARDO BERTOLUCCI
A few months after the death of Bernardo Bertolucci, Piccolo America offers an almost complete review of the works of the great master of Italian cinema.
Bernardo Bertolucci with his films has been able to investigate the psychological depths of today’s man and at the same time tell the great moments of history, from fascism (The Conformist) to ’68 (The Dreamers) to the history of China (The Last Emperor, winner of 9 Academy Awards).
With this retrospective the Little America pays tribute to the master and his indelible contribution to the history of Italian and international cinema and thanks Claire Peploe for the support.
Eleven events in Trastevere in Piazza San Cosimato at 9.15 pm from June 5th to August 1st, as part of the wider “Il Cinema in Piazza” initiative: the director’s closest interpreters and collaborators will tell the secrets of his cinema and his relationship with the author.
Tomorrow evening, Wednesday 5 June, at 9.15 pm the appointment is in San Cosimato with
LA LUNA, the story of an American opera singer, who moved from New York to Rome after the sudden death of her husband, who discovers that her teenage son, until then rather neglected by her, takes drugs. He decides to abandon everything, private life, theater, to help the boy get out of his drama. She can’t do it alone, so she sends it to her real father: a teacher from the Roman province.
There is a whole sensuality of cinema, a sensuality of the films when they are seen by a popular audience. The film tells its audience “Love me, get inside me” and that’s what the public does and that for various summers did with non-Italian film screenings …
San Cosimato also reminded me of the Novecento Roman Summer projections, the young people shouting “Olmo” talking on the screen.
When I was in San Cosimato I had the feeling as then of a community gathered in a sort of popular festival. The films were followed with almost physiological participation.
