Forty years later, the “lost” track is finally being released. Along with it comes the new tour, “Forty Years of 17 Re.”
It has been forty years since Litfiba released “17 Re” in 1986: a double album (a single album for the French market) that was destined to become a milestone in Italian rock. Today, that circle, which has remained open for four decades, is finally closing.
The seventeenth track that wasn’t there
The album was originally planned to include seventeen tracks, but in the end it contained only sixteen. The song that was cut at the last minute was the album’s title track, as the band felt it didn’t fit with the rest of the album. That decision turned it into one of the greatest mysteries in Italian music.
When it was released, the album was initially panned by critics. The lone dissenting voice was that of journalist Federico Guglielmi, the only one capable of sensing its prophetic significance. Commercial success would come only later, in the 1990s.
Preceded by Desaparecido (1985) and followed by Litfiba 3 (1988), “17 Re” is the central chapter of the Trilogy of Power: the manifesto of a band that had the courage to take a stand against all forms of tyranny, giving a voice to the victims of power. These are themes that today are of burning and dramatic relevance. Forty years old and still going strong.
The new single
After a failed attempt thirteen years ago, just before the Trilogia Tour, the band decided to stop procrastinating. Starting April 17, the single “17 Re” will be available on all digital platforms.
The song has been radically reworked: born from the ashes of the original, it retains the melody, harmony, and part of the lyrics, but has been completely reimagined, starting with the rhythm. In creating it, the group returned to its classic working method, where each member contributes what they do best.

In addition to the digital version, a numbered green vinyl maxi single will be available on the Sony Music Store starting Friday, April 24 (https://Epic.lnk.to/17Re).
“FOURTY YEARS OF 17 RE” – 2026 TOUR, the challenge of the “unplayable”
The release of the single coincides with a commemorative tour of the entire album, an initiative enthusiastically embraced by all the band members. The idea arose without any commercial logic: if it had been mere nostalgia, the group would have drawn from Litfiba’s vast repertoire in a different way.
By their own admission, many tracks from “17 Re” were practically impossible to play live because they were arranged on the fly, without particular attention to live reproducibility. The challenge today is to perform the album in its entirety. “It’ll be grueling, but we’ll do it. We’ve already said so!”
The lineup will be the original one, consisting of Piero Pelù (vocals), Ghigo Renzulli (guitar), Antonio Aiazzi (keyboards), and Gianni Maroccolo (bass)—the same one that last performed together at the Traffic Festival in Turin in 2014—joined by Luca Martelli on drums.
Litfiba will kick off the tour on the stage of the May Day Concert in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome, where they will perform for the first time with this historic lineup.
