LEGNANO – With the theatrical version of the “Doppia Traccia” tour, PFM celebrated its dual soul at the Teatro Galleria, treating the large audience in Legnano to a journey ranging from technical virtuosity to poetry. A show that aims for acoustic perfection, capable of combining fifty years of music history in a single experience.
A Journey in Two Acts: From Virtuosity to Poetry
The set list unfolds through two distinct moments, a perfect combination of cultured rock and singer-songwriter music:
- L’Anima Prog: The first part is a dive into the repertoire that made the band famous around the world. Masterpieces such as Impressioni di settembre, È festa and La carrozza di Hans highlighted the pure technique and progressive sounds of their origins.
- L’Omaggio a Faber: In the second part, PFM embraces its historic partnership with Fabrizio De André once again. The original arrangements from 1979, which revolutionised the way songwriting was understood in Italy, are revived with their freshness intact. The performance of La canzone di Marinella was the most intimate moment of the evening: PFM played live over Faber’s original vocal track, creating a virtual duet that suspended time.
A classical interlude bridged the two parts of the concert: a moment of rare beauty was the tribute to Prokofiev with La danza dei cavalieri, performed with rigour and rock energy, demonstrating that for PFM there are no barriers between genres.
The Protagonists: A Line-up of Excellence
On stage at the Galleria, a line-up that brings together historical pillars and modern talents, guaranteeing the highest level of performance:
- Franz Di Cioccio – The driving force behind the band. He switches effortlessly between drums and vocals, demonstrating a technical prowess that shows no sign of diminishing at the age of 80.
- Patrick Djivas – The “harmonic director”. His bass adds depth and that elegant yet powerful sound typical of PFM.
- Lucio Fabbri – Violin and eclecticism, essential for the sound layers of De André’s songs.
- Marco Sfogli – The electric soul: he moves from prog virtuosity to acoustic delicacy with mastery.
- Alessandro Scaglione – The architect of sound, from complex synthesizers to intimate piano.
- Eugenio Mori – Second drums for a powerful wall of sound that supports the show, alternating with Franz.
- Luca Zabbini – A valuable multi-instrumentalist for vocal harmonies and keyboards (heir to Premoli’s sound).
- Flavio Premoli – Founder and special guest of the evening: his touch on keyboards and accordion is legendary.
No proclamations, just music
In addition to the notes, the band’s attitude is striking. Franz Di Cioccio reiterated his philosophy: “Drums are my instinctive way of being in the world”. Patrick Djivas echoes this, remaining pragmatic about the band’s longevity: “One day we’ll stop, but without proclamations”, distancing himself from the fashion for endless farewell tours.
Ultimately, the Legnano date was not just a concert, but confirmation that PFM — more than 50 years after its foundation and with 7,000 concerts behind it — remains a vital entity, capable of combining the rigour of the great classical composers with the energy of rock and the sensitivity of Faber.
