On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Trevignano Romano will become the starting point for a photographic challenge open to everyone. Participants will be given different themes to interpret, images to create throughout the area, and an entire day to tell the story of Lake Bracciano through their own unique perspective.

As part of the fourth edition of the Photofest “Immagini sul Lago”, taking place from September 19 to 27, 2026, one of the festival’s most engaging events returns: the “Water is Life” Photo Marathon.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 20, with participants meeting at 10:00 AM in Trevignano Romano, at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, beneath the Town Hall portico.

You do not need to be a professional photographer, nor do you need any special equipment. The Photo Marathon is open to amateurs, photography enthusiasts and professionals, and participants can use either a camera or simply a smartphone.

How the Photo Marathon Works

At the starting point, participants will be given the first theme to interpret photographically.

From that moment, the challenge begins.

Throughout the day, a new theme will be announced every two hours, and participants will have to create one photograph for each theme.

The challenge is therefore not simply about finding a beautiful image. It is about observing the world around you, interpreting a theme and turning it into a personal photographic story.

The central theme will be “Water is Life”, encouraging participants to reflect on the relationship between water, the environment, people and the territory.

Lake Bracciano will thus become a vast open-air photographic set.

Discovering the Area Through Photography

The Photo Marathon will also be an opportunity to move around, observe and rediscover the local area.

Villages, lakeside landscapes, people, scenery, details, everyday life, reflections and unexpected situations can all become elements with which to build a personal visual story.

Each participant will be free to choose their own photographic language: street photography, landscape, portraiture, reportage, or more creative and conceptual photography.

This freedom of interpretation is precisely what makes the Photo Marathon so interesting: the same theme can produce completely different images depending on the photographer’s perspective.

You Don’t Have to Be a Professional

One of the goals of the initiative is to bring photography closer to as many people as possible.

For this reason, participation is free, and photographs can be taken with either a camera or a smartphone.

There is no need to own the most sophisticated equipment. What really matters are curiosity, observation skills and the desire to tell a story.

And at the End… the Prizes

The photographs produced during the Photo Marathon will be evaluated, and prizes will be awarded to the top participants, including shopping vouchers provided by Ottica Universitaria:

1st Prize – €100 shopping voucher
2nd Prize – €50 shopping voucher
3rd Prize – Framed certificate

But the real challenge will be to spend a few hours looking at places that may have been familiar for years with completely new eyes.
