LUCE, FEMMENA DEL SUD

Di Luce, la “femmena del sud” protagonista di questo romanzo, mi sono innamorata dalle prime pagine. Anche se l’autore è un uomo, a lui il merito di aver creato personaggi credibile. A dispetto del suo nome è un’ombrosa trentenne, che vive nei Quartieri Spagnoli di Napoli, sfondo sempre ben presente fra un episodio e l’altro. La protagonista affronta la sua difficile vita con coraggio e tenacia, nella sua città direbbero proprio con “cazzimma”. È una donna forte e fragile, avvocato atipica, capello corto, seno appena accennato, jeans e converse. È onesta, velatamente romantica e a tratti cinica, da molti considerata un maschiaccio, ma più vicino ad una donna vera dei nostri giorni, che alle figure femminili un po’ edulcorate di molti romanzi.

“Più che la parola di Nostro Signore, insomma, è stata la vita stessa a forgiarmi, e lo ha fatto nel modo più semplice, guardandomi da lontano, come la madre con il figlioletto che gioca a qualcosa di pericoloso e non interviene. Perché al mondo si impara a stare anche e soprattutto cadendo, sbucciandosi un ginocchio e sanguinando. Nessuno ha mai assorbito nulla da un giorno di quiete.”

COSA VUOL DIRE RESILIENZA?

Tutto ciò è il frutto della sua esistenza difficile. Soffre per una mamma che non sa dimostrare il suo affetto e un papà, che scompare e muore quando i figli erano ancora bambini.

La sua piccola famiglia si regge sulla mamma che da sola deve crescere Luce e lo scapestrato fratello Antonio, con l’aiuto dell’amata nonna. Di fare la gavetta nello studio dell’avvocato Geronimo si è stufata, vuole fare l’avvocato e non la passacarte.

“Comunque”, ha ripreso poi, “io penso che mentre noi siamo lì a menarcela con la storia di cercare la nostra strada e inseguire i sogni, di vivere davvero la vita che vogliamo e mille altre idee un po’ banali, il nostro istinto, l’Io, chiamalo come ti pare, lavora per noi e ci indica la via.”

APRIAMOCI AL MONDO

In un raro momento di apertura verso l’esterno fa amicizia con il vicino, Don Vincenzo, anziano e paralizzato, che si rivela presto essere un prezioso confidente oltre che saggio filosofo. Grazie al nuovo incarico, l’indagine su Carmen Bonavita e il figlio Kevin, la sua vita cambia. Il bambino le risveglia subito un istinto materno fino ad allora sopito, così che il suo sguardo nei confronti del mondo cambia, e il rapporto con la discutibile madre, nonostante tutto, si rivela presto una preziosa amicizia. Luce accoglie infatti con commozione la notizia di un inaspettato nipotino e di una nuova famiglia per il fratello Antonio. Un nuovo inizio, come quello frutto dell’incontro casuale con Thòmas, artista di strada che le cattura il cuore.

IL RISCATTO DEI DEBOLI

Una storia di modestia e di scarse possibilità, ma anche di innocenza e brutalità, accettazione e riscatto grazie all’empatia e alla forza della collaborazione. Si parla di valori, ma anche di famiglia e qui è forse il nodo più toccante della storia, a tratti commovente. Il coraggio si nasconde fra le righe di quasi tutti i personaggi. Ciascuno a modo proprio cerca nuove opportunità, sociali, affettive, economiche, professionali. Tutti coloro che si impegnano hanno una possibilità di migliorare la propria condizione e ciò infonde al romanzo un sapore di fiduciosa speranza. La protagonista sembra quasi dire: non credete a coloro che vi relegano in una categoria senza scampo. La possibilità di cambiare è alla portata di tutti, persino la piccola rondine accolta e curata alla fine riesce a tornare a volare in libertà, secondo la propria natura.

“Ricordati: veniamo al mondo per assolvere a qualcosa di meraviglioso. Tutti. Anche tu.”

LINGUAGGIO SPECCHIO DI VITA

Il linguaggio è scorrevole e chiaro, ricco di espressioni tipicamente napoletane, che, se possibile, rendono ancora più veritiera la storia. A volte viene persino voglia di sottolineare alcune affermazioni o di prendere appunti. La struttura è semplice, ma non per questo banale. Lo stile narrativo attira il lettore dall’inizio alla fine nei vicoli di questa città, che diventano un ulteriore personaggio dai colori forti e definiti a sottolineare le figure principali. Sebbene sia la storia di Luce, definirei questa storia un’opera corale, dove ciascuno offre il proprio contributo, suonando uno strumento specifico e il risultato finale è un’amabile e toccante sinfonia.
