Sul far della sera, sospinti dalla luce rossa del tramonto ci stavamo addentrando nei “lotti” del quartiere Garbatella.
La passeggiata prende l’avvio prima che gli eventi della notte bianca organizzata per i festeggiamenti del centenario di fondazione del quartiere Garbatella avessero inizio.
L’appuntamento e’ di fronte al Teatro Palladium, che ospitava alcuni eventi per il centenario. Lo spazio che era stato il tempio delle notti romane “trasgressive” negli anni 90 del secolo scorso è ora un tempio di cultura gestito da un ateneo.
Nei miei ricordi “notturno anni 90” c’erano folle di ragazzi vestiti di nero molto punk ad accogliere gli artisti al Palladium con borchie e metallo ovunque e non solo negli accordi musicali.
Il suono della socialità ora connota il quartiere e mentre scatto le fotografie ragiono su chi vi abita.
In quest’area di Roma Sud così diversa da tutto il resto della metropoli ci sono quasi 50.000 persone che costituiscono un unicum dal valore antropologico.
Stiamo passeggiando tra i lotti più antichi, tra le palazzine più belle costruite attorno a piccoli giardini mentre ci sentiamo osservati da dietro le imposte delle finestre.
Armati di cartine e macchine fotografiche stiamo curiosando tra i panni stesi di questa comunità.
La festa del centenario del quartiere è stata pubblicizzata ampiamente ma la nostra passeggiata continua a sembrare un intrusione a casa d’altri.
Negli stenditoi dei cortili ci sono foto giganti degli abitanti scattate nel secolo scorso. I progenitori di molti di questi cittadini sono sempre stati orgogliosi di poter vivere in questo contesto; quest’area è loro da generazioni.
E’ tutto molto umano qui,c’è ancora la Gente nell’accezione latina del termine con quella calata greve e colorita che si tinge di blue sulla pelle tatuata. La Gente pronunciata con due consonanti “tonanti” come solo a Roma si pronuncia è attenta ai turisti come noi.
Sul far della sera questo quartiere popolare s’ammanta di rosso, ti ricorda di votare per Garibaldi e non nasconde gli odori di cucina…
La nostra guida ci stà raccontando che esperienza sociologica è passare qualche ora alle poste, luogo di ritrovo alcool free per gli anziani in qualunque stagione.
Decidiamo di tornare ancora quindi, magari a provare una cacio e pepe in una di queste trattorie così romane. Questi spazi urbani meritano un approfondimento anche se cento anni per la citta di Roma sembrano un battito di ciglia.
L’esperimento architettonico e sociale del quartiere Garbatella suggerisce di mettere in agenda alcune ore in più nel prossimo tour romano. Oltre ai fori romani e alla città del Vaticano è possibile provare l’essenza della città anche passeggiando in un quartiere popolare.
