L’Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences ha annunciato gli Oscar alla carriera. La statuetta nel 2020 viene assegnata anche alla regista italiana Lina Wertmuller che il prossimo 14 agosto 2019 compirà 91 anni. Gli Oscar saranno presentati ufficialmente il 27 ottobre 2019 agli 11/i Annual Governors Awards dell’Academy.
La novantenne “si è distinta in modo straordinario lungo la sua carriera”, nel 1977 è stata la prima donna candidata all’Oscar come migliore regista per il film Pasqualino Settebellezze (Seven Beauties), presentato quest’anno in versione restaurata all’ultimo Festival del Cinema di Cannes nella sezione CannesClassics.

Saranno quattro i premi oscar alla carriera, oltre a Lina Wertmuller la statuetta verrà consegnata anche a David Lynch, Wes Studi e Geena Davis … “quattro artisti che hanno trasformato l’industria del cinema…”.

L’Academy ha dichiarato: “L’Oscar viene conferito alla regista perché si è distinta in modo straordinario lungo la sua carriera, e il contributo eccezionale dato al cinema”.

“Nota per essersi concentrata su questioni politiche e sociali, Wertmuller  ha scritto e diretto film importanti come ’The Basilisks’ (1963) (’I basilischi’), ’The Seduction of Mimi’ (1972) (’Mimì metallurgico ferito nell’onore’), ’Love and Anarchy’ (1973) (’Film d’amore e d’anarchia’), e ’Swept Away’ (1974) (’Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare di agosto’).

La Wertmuller ha dichiarato: “Sono molto grata per la decisione di assegnarmi questo premio. Un premio che non mi aspettavo affatto e che per questo è tanto più gradito, mi fa tanto più piacere. Certo gli americani, grazie a Dio, mi hanno sempre voluto bene”. Adnkronos

Giancarlo Giannini ha commentato così la notizia ai microfoni di Giuseppe Fantasia dell’HuffPost: “Lina Wertmüller? Mi ha creato. Se non ci fosse stata lei, io non sarei qui e non avrei mai fatto quello che ho fatto nella mia carriera. È riuscita a trasformare ogni idea che aveva in un grande divertimento ed è sempre stato un piacere lavorarci insieme e confrontarsi sugli argomenti più disparati. Per me è stata tutto”.

Lina Wertmüller, all’anagrafe Arcangela Felice Assunta Wertmüller von Elgg Spanol von Braueich (Roma, 14 agosto 1928). Su proposta della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri il 27 dicembre 2018 è stata insignita del titolo di Cavaliere di gran croce dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana.
