Gli strappi di Mimmo Rotella alla Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna a Roma

Apre a Roma la mostra “ Mimmo Rotella Manifesto”, nell’anno del suo centesimo anniversario dalla sua nascita (Catanzaro 1918/Milano 2006), in mostra fino al 10 febbraio 2019. Ieri un grande opening oltre 400 persone ad ammirare la “quadreria” curata da Germano Celant con Antonella Soldaini.

Germano Celant ha creato, nel suo genio, un display urbano composto da frammenti quadri di grande effetto sulle pareti della Salone Centrale alla Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, come in una grande piazza e sulle facciate di edifici. Un antologia sul maestro Rotella di estrema accuratezza e ampia di dettagli che spaziano dagli anni 50 ai 2000 con 170 opere di varie tecniche e tempi come uno “slow motion” in modo cronologico.

Un manifesto di manifesti interpretato con qualità e diversità dell’ampia documentazione artistica di Mimmo Rotella e la sua arte urbana. Come i suoi magnifici décolages, i suoi retro affiches, gli artypos, blanks, gli strappati sovradipinti, un effaçage, i suoi replicanti, opere pittoriche su carta,…ricerca e sperimentazione di una vita. Per la prima volta tutti insieme.

Mimmo Rotella, nato con il nome di Domenico Rotella, è considerato uno dei protagonisti della scena artistica della seconda metà del XX secolo. La sua figura è legata al movimento del Nouveau Réalisme e della Pop Art internazionale. Il genio che per primo in Italia sperimentò questi nuovi linguaggi dei decolages, ovvero strappi di parti dei cartelloni pubblicitari o manifesti trasferiti su supporti e trasformati in una nuova opera d’arte. oggi quei cartelloni per molti un tuffo nel passato e nei ricordi come i vari poster pubblicitari rielaborati e trasformati in opere d’arte. Tra le opere più apprezzate il famoso poster di Marilyn, Coca cola, le locandine dei famosi film…

Al centro della sala varie bacheche: fotografie, cataloghi, documenti, disegni, lettere che permettono di comprendere a fondo l’attività del maestro: dal Manifesto dell’Epistaltismo del 1949 al disco Poemi fonetici del 1975, dalle confessioni contenute nei diari del 1993- 1994 all’assegnazione della Medaglia d’Oro alla Carriera da parte di Carlo Azeglio Ciampi nel 2002. Emerge anche l’infinità di rapporti, lavorativi e personali, con i protagonisti del panorama culturale del XXI secolo, da Carla Accardi a Giuseppe Capogrossi e Lucio Fontana, dai Nouveaux Réalistes a Julian Schnabel, da Carlo Cardazzo a Sidney Janis, da Pierre Restany a Tommaso Trini, fino a Giulio Carlo Argan e a Palma Bucarelli che tanto hanno influito sulla diffusione della conoscenza di Rotella. Proprio Bucarelli, ha contribuito ad affermare la centralità dell’artista nell’ambito della produzione del Novecento italiano acquisendo per il museo importanti lavori quali i retro d’affiches Composizione astratta (1955-1957), Up Tempo (1957), Spirito di Dharma (1960) e i décollages Mitologia 3 (1962) e Senza titolo (1962).

All’esterno del salone, in una posizione simmetrica, due piccole ‘piazzette’, sono ambienti che integrano in mostra gli aspetti performativi e gli esempi scultorei di Rotella. Spazi complementari che propongono da una parte filmati dagli anni Cinquanta e dall’altra, in parallelo, la sua attività in ambito plastico tramite la serie dei Replicanti del 1990: dieci elementi in porcellana che con il loro titolo e aspetto – tra il pop e il surreale – alludono a un’umanità ridotta a replicante di sé stessa e senza più sentimenti, come quella segnata dalle guerre in corso nel mondo.

“Mimmo Rotella Manifesto” è parte delle iniziative per il centenario dalla nascita di Mimmo Rotella, promosse dalla Fondazione Mimmo Rotella e dal Mimmo Rotella Institute con il supporto della Regione Calabria. Una mostra da non perdere!

La Fondazione Mimmo Rotella nasce nel 2000 per volontà dell’artista. Tutela, promuove, valorizza e registra in Archivio le opere di Mimmo Rotella. È presieduta da Aghnessa Rotella.

Il Mimmo Rotella Institute è un’associazione culturale fondata nel 2012 per volere di Inna e Aghnessa, Rotella al fine di promuovere a livello nazionale e internazionale la conoscenza e la tutela della figura e dell’arte di Mimmo Rotella. Si avvale della consulenza scientifica di Germano Celant ed è diretta da Antonella Soldaini.

Il catalogo edito da Silvana Editoriale con testi inediti di studiosi nazionali e internazionali contribuisce ad approfondire la lettura critica proposta in mostra funzionando come ‘viaggio’ analitico all’interno degli insiemi-manifesto documentati con sei grandi pieghevoli, i leporelli.

Mimmo Rotella: l’artista e poeta italiano noto per i collage di poster pubblicitari strappati su un supporto che ha definito “double décollages”. Nato il 7 ottobre 1918 a Catanzaro, Italia, ha studiato all’Accademia di Belle Arti a Napoli prima di trasferirsi a Roma nel 1945. Lì, divenne associato al movimento del Lettrismo e – insieme a Raymond Hains, Jacque Villeglé e François Dufrêne – divenne noto come uno dei Les Affichistes, un gruppo di artisti accreditati come antenati di Street Arte. La sua prima mostra personale si tenne nel 1951 alla Galleria Chiurazzi di Roma, e più tardi nello stesso anno ricevette una borsa di studio Fulbright con cui viaggiò alla Kansas City University. Nel 1961, fu invitato da Pierre Restany a unirsi al movimento New Realism, i cui membri comprendevano Yves Klein, Arman e Jean Tinguely. Nel 1964, ha rappresentato l’Italia alla Biennale di Venezia. Morì l’8 gennaio 2006 a Milano, all’età di 87 anni.
