 Per le giornate della Sagra della Castagna di Vallerano (11 ottobre -2 novembre 2014) abbiamo scelto di consigliarvi un semplice quanto splendido percorso a piedi che partendo da Vallerano passa per la Grotta del Salvatore e giunge nella vicina Canepina. Un percorso che si può tranquillamente compiere in poche ore tra andata e ritorno e che passando per campagne e luoghi archeologicamente importanti dona al camminatore di tutte le età una panoramica ampia sul territorio e il paesaggio circostante.
Potrete dunque tranquillamente recarvi a Valerano nella mattina, compiere il tragitto e poi, per il pomeriggio, essere di nuovo in paese, potendo così gustare le castagne arrosto e tutte le attrattive della festa più bella e caratteristica dei Monti Cimini.

IL PERCORSO
Da Piazza della Repubblica di Vallerano passiamo accanto al Teatro Orioli e sotto un arco a destra che ci porta già fuori del paese.

Ma dobbiamo fermarci un attimo perché vicino all’arco si trova la casa di Felice Ercoli che lavorò all’organo monumentale della Chiesa del Ruscello dove il 18 giugno 1707 Haendel, mentre era ospite dei Ruspoli a Vignanello, eseguì il “Salve Regina” in presenza dei Ruspoli stessi e dei Farnese, signori dominatori di Vallerano in quel periodo.
Dopo il tornante a destra la strada scavalca un ruscello tramite un ponte, va tra i noccioleti e passa sotto il ponte della ferrovia. Da qui inizia una salita e dopo duecento metri c’è una deviazione a sinistra con l’indicazione Canepina. Eppure noi andiamo dritti al fine di visitare alcune bellezze nascoste della zona, archeologiche e naturalistiche, a costo di allungare un po’. Subito dopo questa deviazione ce n’è un’altra che non prendiamo a destra. La nostra strada scende ancora e ripassa sotto la ferrovia. Da questo ponte dopo 50 metri c’è una deviazione a sinistra tra i noccioleti che ci conduce alla Grotta del Salvatore.


Bisogna scendere all’altezza di una rimessa degli attrezzi verso il fosso e grazie ad un bel ponte costruito dal Gruppo Archeologico Orioli saliamo per pochi metri e arriviamo alla grotta, con magnifici affreschi.
Visitata la grotta ritorniamo alla strada cementata e andiamo a sinistra in salita. In cima c’è un bivio: noi andiamo a sinistra e proseguiamo per la strada principale, fino ad un bivio a V. A destra facciamo una deviazione perché ci sono delle Mura Saracene, di peperino. Proseguiamo così ancora in salita e la strada diventa bianca. Sulla destra la forma di Soriano nel Cimino, col castello Orsini e sulla sinistra la valle del Tevere e il Soratte.

Questa strada ridiventa asfaltata e si butta di nuovo in un fosso. Sulla sinistra, prima del ponte, quando sentiamo il rumore del ruscello, c’è un tratturo che ci condurrà a delle piccole cascate grazie ad un ulteriore deviazione e un fuori pista. Questo splendido posto, usato dagli abitanti della zona in passato per refrigerarsi dalla calura estiva, è chiamato Cascate del Bottagone, presso il Rio delle Cannucce.

Dopo aver ripreso il sentiero e il ponte sulla sinistra troviamo un bivio in salita e andiamo a destra. Arrivati con questa strada a costeggiare la strada delle macchine proseguiamo parallelamente seguendo per l’agriturismo “Il passo della Beccaccia” e poi andando a sinistra sotto il ponte. Sempre dritti e saremo al cimitero di Canepina. Qui svoltiamo a sinistra e siamo nel centro storico.
