An unmissable exhibition at the National Galleries of Ancient Art – Palazzo Barberini. It features over 150 works from the collection of the Aïshti Foundation, founded by Tony Salamé and his wife Elham. The title of the exhibition is inspired by the cinematographic technique of “Day for Night,” which allows filming night scenes during the day as made famous byTruffaut in 1973. The exhibition aims to explore the concept of realism and the representation of truth in American art. It showcases works by contemporary American artists who capture the complexity of American society.
The inclusion of “New American” in the title emphasizes the focus on emerging and innovative voices in the art world, challenging traditional notions of representation and offering fresh perspectives on American culture. Fortunately this exhibition is contemporary in that it is an inclusive display of the richness and diversity of American art showcasing works from a plethora of ethnicities that make up the ‘melting pot’ of the USA including a great number of masterpieces by black Americans.
The contemporary pieces alongside significant Baroque art of the Palazzo, offer a fresh perspective. They invite you to contemplate the evolution of realism and truth in art, from the dramatic depictions of the Baroque era to the nuanced expressions found in American art today.
Overall this exhibition presents a unique occasion to immerse yourself in the latest advancements in American art. Whether you’re an experienced art lover or seeking a culturally enriching experience during your visit to Rome, this showcase guarantees a profound exploration of contemporary themes through the diverse viewpoints of renowned American artists.
