Roma, dal 26 settembre 2014 al 25 gennaio 2015, la mostra retrospettiva Henri Cartier-Bresson  a cura di Clément Chéroux, ora in corso al Centre Pompidou di Parigi.

La grande esposizione, promossa da Roma Capitale Assessorato alla Cultura, Creatività e Promozione Artistica – Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali e prodotta da Contrasto e Zètema Progetto Cultura, viene presentata a dieci anni esatti dalla morte di Henri Cartier-Bresson. Clément Chéroux è storico della fotografia e curatore presso il Centre Pompidou, Musée national d’art moderne. 

Il genio della composizione, la straordinaria intuizione visiva, la capacità di cogliere al volo i momenti più fugaci ma anche più significativi, fanno di Henri Cartier-  Bresson (1908 – 2004) uno dei più grandi fotografi del Ventesimo secolo. Lungo tutta la sua carriera, percorrendo il mondo e posando lo sguardo sui grandi momenti della Storia, Cartier-Bresson è riuscito sempre a unire la poesia alla potenza della testimonianza. Dal Surrealismo alla Guerra Fredda, dalla Guerra Civile Spagnola alla seconda Guerra Mondiale e alla decolonizzazione, Cartier-Bresson è stato uno dei grandi testimoni della nostra storia; l’occhio del secolo”, come giustamente viene chiamato.

Tre grandi periodi scandiscono la sua opera: il primo, dal 1926 al 1935, nel quale Cartier-Bresson frequenta i surrealisti, compie i primi passi nella fotografia e intraprende i suoi primi viaggi; il secondo, dal 1936 al 1946, è quello del suo impegno politico, del suo lavoro per la stampa comunista e dell’esperienza del cinema. Il terzo, dal 1947 al 1970, va dalla creazione della prestigiosa agenzia Magnum Photos fino al suo abbandono del fotoreportage.

La mostra propone una nuova lettura dell’immenso corpus di immagini che Cartier-Bresson ci ha lasciato: copre l’intero percorso professionale del grande fotografo ed è  il frutto di un lungo lavoro di ricerca svolto dal curatore nel corso di molti anni di studio nell’archivio di Cartier-Bresson. Saranno esposte oltre 500 tra fotografie, disegni, dipinti, film e documenti, riunendo le più importanti icone ma anche le immagini meno conosciute del grande maestro.
