La mostra, allestita nella splendida sede di Palazzo Carpegna, inizia al piano terra, prosegue lungo il portico del cortile e termina lungo la rampa Borromini, mostrando le molteplici tecniche utilizzate dall’artista, dalla luce alla videoproiezione, dalle mappe ai disegni, alla ricerca di quella che l’artista chiama “vita”, nella sua accezione più ampia: terra, cosmo e corpo umano. Diversamente da molte mostre di videoartisti, siamo informati dello sviluppo del progetto, dai primi disegni alla presentazione finale in video e luce. È il seguito di due progetti precedenti, Marco (I Mark) del 2019 e Marco (We Mark) del 2020. L’ispirazione per il progetto è nata quando l’artista ha invitato il fratello Marco Toderi, agronomo come il padre, a realizzare una serie di immagini di terre deserte, scelte e “segnate” dal suo passaggio e dal suo sguardo; ne è nato uno scambio di riflessioni reciproche sulla terra e sugli elementi – aria, acqua e fuoco. Si tratta degli elementi che rendono possibile la vita. “Passo quasi tutto il tempo a stratificare le immagini che ho scattato, una sopra l’altra. Ogni singolo fotogramma si trasforma in un altro, solo leggermente diverso, e così via, moltiplicandosi in migliaia di altri fotogrammi che scorrono luminosi su una superficie e nel tempo. È così che nascono le mie videoproiezioni”.

Percorrere la prima parte della mostra ha il piacevole effetto di disorientare lo spettatore con le sue immagini in movimento, i suoi colori vibranti e i suoi suoni spaziali, “come quelli che immagino un astronauta senta durante il suo viaggio nello spazio”. La mostra prosegue attraverso il cortile del portico e poi sulla rampa disegnata dal Borromini, che è di per sé un’opera d’arte da non perdere. Le illustrazioni sono perfettamente collocate e portano lo spettatore nel mondo primordiale della creazione di quest’opera. Tutti gli elementi si uniscono per condurci in un viaggio in cui è lo spettatore a decidere dove conduce, riflettendo sulla nostra esistenza, sulle nostre azioni nei confronti del mondo e dell’universo in generale e sulle conseguenze. Siamo un tutt’uno con l’universo o solo un puntino non causale sul globo?

Grazia Toderi è una delle artiste contemporanee più riconosciute in Italia e a livello internazionale, soprattutto per quanto riguarda le installazioni d’arte e la videoarte. È anche scrittrice, fotografa e pittrice. Il suo lavoro è riconoscibile per l’uso iconico di immagini aeree di città di notte e attribuisce le sue visualizzazioni dell’infinito alla visione della prima passeggiata sulla luna. Si è imposta all’attenzione della critica nel 1993, quando ha esposto alla 45a Biennale di Venezia, per poi tornare nel 1999 (vincendo il Leone d’Oro) e nel 2009. Ha tenuto numerose mostre in spazi pubblici e musei, tra cui: Castello di Rivoli, Torino; Fundació Joan Miró, Barcellona; Museo Serralves, Porto; Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; MAXXI Roma.

Song Paradiso è originaria dell'Alabama e risiede a Roma dopo aver vissuto la maggior parte della sua vita a Londra come studentessa universitaria, ma ha trovato il tempo di essere un'abile cantante, musicista, fotografa, orafa, dating coach, pittrice e terapista complementare che utilizza la Medicina Energetica e l'Omeopatia. Facendo la deejay per gli amici dall'età di 3 anni, ritiene che l'essere cresciuta negli anni '70/'80 le abbia dato una solida base musicale, grazie alla vasta gamma di vinili del padre di tutti i generi come Jazz, Funk, Blues, Classica e Rock. Ha assistito a concerti come quelli dei Parliament, dei Jackson 5, degli Earth Wind and Fire, di Neil Young, dei Grateful Dead e di molti altri. È una fatalista e questo è stato rafforzato quando ha avuto un'esperienza spirituale a Roma e giura che non se ne andrà mai, ma viaggia ancora, ama leggere di storia antica, salute naturale, esoterica e arcana. È ossessionata dall'essere madre, dalla vita biologica, dallo yoga, dagli UAP, dal cinema e dalla musica, ma i suoi piaceri colpevoli sono i Reality TV e il gelato vegano. This was particularly touching to me because she found a way to include her brother which I understand as an expat. I am curious to know what did you like about this exhibition.
