Un film strano, diverso in parte difficile.
Nato dall’idea di De Sica di voler fare un remake di “Oscar insanguinato”, il film si propone di unire due generi abbastanza distanti: Horror e commedia, ma riesce solo in parte.
Le scene horror ci sono (anche superiori a Ghostbuster, il riferimento cinematografico a cui tutti faranno comparazione) supportate anche da effetti speciali ben curati per essere un film italiano (e quindi senza i budget dei colossi americani), ma stranamente la parte più leggera, nonostante i buoni attori e degli autori che avevano fatto bene in altri film, risulta un pò priva di coraggio e non riesce ad abbandonare la risata pecoreccia dei cinepanettoni a cui ormai il pubblico è abituato ad accostare la figura di Christian De Sica.
Ed è questo dilemma tra il puntare ad un cinema di maggiore qualità senza scontentare il pubblico affezionato, che forse rende meno efficace il film.
Abbiamo un mago ciarlatano caduto in disgrazia (De Sica) ed un emigrato napoletano succube di moglie e suocero milanesi (Buccirosso) che ritornano a Napoli per il funerali del padre e scoprono un terzo fratello all’apparenza un pò fuori di testa (Tognazzi) e un eredità che è costituita solo da debiti, per saldare i quali iniziano la loro attività paranormale di acchiappafantasmi.
In questa mediocre situazione, sono però degni di nota gli innumerevoli riferimenti al grande Vittorio De Sica, il suo cinema neorealista e laq sua Napoli (che non è quella che va tanto di moda adesso sugli schermi con Gomorra e simili), ecco quindi battute, citazioni, situazioni che richiamano uno dei padri del Neorealismo italiano, che ha molti punti in comune (amore per le donne, figli sparsi e demone del gioco), tra cui il nome Vittorio, con il padre scomparso nel film dei nostri tre protagonisti.
Da segnalare anche l’interpretazione fatta da Christian dal padre nella scena finale, simbolo di questo grandissimo amore (ribadito più volte anche nella conferenza stampa) verso di lui.

SINOSSI
Thomas (Christian De Sica), ex mago in bolletta, e  Carlo (Carlo Buccirosso), napoletano, sottomesso a moglie e suocero settentrionali, sono due fratellastri che si rincontrano dopo anni a Napoli per la morte del padre Vittorio, giocatore incallito e donnaiolo. Scoprono di avere un terzo fratello, Ugo (Gianmarco Tognazzi), apparentemente un po’ tonto ma in realtà un piccolo genio. L’eredità, agognata da Thomas e Carlo, sfuma a causa dei debiti del padre e i tre hanno una grande idea: sfruttare la superstizione e credulità napoletana, diventando degli ‘acchiappa fantasmi’. Proprio quando l’attività inaspettatamente sembra avere molto successo, lo spirito del padre Vittorio s’impossessa del corpo di Carlo.  Thomas e Carlo si convincono che i fantasmi esistono davvero.  Inconsapevolmente i tre con la loro impresa hanno risvegliato il fantasma della Janara, una temibile strega che minaccia di distruggere Napoli. Con l’aiuto del padre i tre fratelli cercheranno di salvare la città.
