Spesso chiamata “la donna più bella nel film,” la bellezza e la presenza sul grande schermo di Hedy Lamarr fece di lei una delle attrici più popolari del suo tempo.

Per Hedy Lamarr essere una bella attrice di talento non era sufficiente, Hedy era anche molto intelligente. Oltre ai suoi successi cinematografici, è necessario ricordare che ha brevettato un’idea che più tardi divenne fondamentale per le comunicazioni militari sicure e la tecnologia che sta alla base della telefonia mobile. Nel 1942, Hedy e il compositore George Antheil brevettarono quello che chiamarono il “Sistema di comunicazione segreto.” L’idea originale, destinata a risolvere il problema del  blocco dei segnali dei missili radiocomandati durante la seconda guerra mondiale, che permette di cambiare le frequenze radio simultaneamente in modo da evitare che i nemici potessero essere in grado di intercettarli. Lo stato della tecnologia del tempo ne impedì la fattibilità, ma successivamente con l’avvento di micro transistor il concetto espresso da Hedy Lamarr divenne molto importante sia per il settore della telefonia mobile che per l’industria militare.  Il raggiungimento di questo imponente traguardo tecnologico,  combinato con il suo talento nella recitazione  come “la donna più bella nel film” la ha incoronata come una delle donne più interessanti e intelligenti che sia mai esistita.
