November 2014 weekends dedicated to extra virgin olive oil DOP Umbria,
quality local food products in the countryside and medieval towns of Umbria.
Returning this year the XVII edition of Frantoi Aperti in Umbria is an initiative dedicated to the enhancement of extra virgin olive oil DOP Umbria and tourism in Umbria.
Frantoi Aperti will delight true connoisseurs of good living and good eating for 5 consecutive weekends, from 1 to 30 November 2014. The medieval towns of Umbria will be alive with events that will spread out into the countryside, olive groves, oil mills, farms and farmhouses.
The undisputed star is, of course, the Extra Virgin Olive Oil DOP Umbria from the 5 prestigious DOP areas of Umbria (Colli del Trasimeno, Colli Orvietani, Colli Amerini, Colli di Assisi e Spoleto and Dop Colli Martani). Olive oil mills (Frantoi) throughout Umbria will open their doors to visitors with free shuttle services available from local towns. Much more than this however the region of Umbria celebrates the new season’s olive oil (olio nuovo) with events in its towns and villages with tours, tastings, concerts, theatre performances, cooking schools, olive picking, trekking through the olive groves and visits to ancient olive trees. New this year there will be tasting-tango evenings with samplings of local specialities, new season’s extra virgin olive oil to the accompanying sounds of romantic tango music.
Throughout these 5 weekends in autumn the medieval castles, small romantic churches and historic palaces will be open, many especially for the occasion.
The focus of Frantoi Aperti is on gastronomia set in the historic region of Umbria with its age old traditions. On roaring fires crusty bread is toasted ready to be drenched in the green/gold of olio nuovo.
