1983, extraordinary edition of Sanremo, one of those years that accompanied the youth of many Italians with the music, beautiful memories that now belong to the past, but listening to them bring back memories of long-lived loves and happy moments of life .
That year a young performer named Tiziana Rivale came out as the winner of the Festival, with the song “Sara ‘quel che sara'”, her energy, her beauty, her innovative look and above all her extraordinary voice made the Italians fall in love , and it was love at first sight! The only ones to be taken by surprise were some recorders, who had studied at a table, another winner! But unfortunately for them that year was’ the public from home to elect the winner of the Festival, and chose Tiziana Rivale.
A huge success for the winning song. In the final evening, which took place Saturday, February 5, 1983,
the rival was the penultimate to perform. The rules foresaw that three pieces per group pass the final round: It will be what will be the most voted song ever with 3208 points and got the qualification,
It will be what will be the most voted song in the final round, totaling 2981 points and getting the victory, in an all female podium!
But as in every Sanremo edition, the winner would have had to go straight to the Eurosong Contest … but this did not happen for Tiziana Rivale! His record company, WEA, decided that Riccardo Fogli would go in his place with a song called “for Lucia”, in my opinion one of the ugliest songs in history! It is 11th.
These are the mysteries of our beloved country, where the word “meritocracy” has been erased from the dictionary of the Italian language! After the sudden success Tiziana Rivale remains on the wave of popularity with other hit songs,
Since then, there have been many TV and concert performances in Italy and abroad, touching countries such as Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Spain, Turkey, Romania, Belgium, Canada, Australia and U.S.A. He also performed with the Prague Philharmonic, to be remembered, including his participation in the Tokyo World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo.
While in the rest of the world the artist took hold and was more and more appreciated, in Italy it began slowly to be overshadowed and to disappear almost completely!
Today Tiziana Rivale, after having lived several years in America, continues her musical career, with a great success abroad and with her usual wonderful and unique voice, her new album entitled “Contact” and the we wanted to interview exclusively for Rome Central for the joy of many Italians, who like me, continue to wonder why a voice so unique and rare has not continued to have the attention and the success it deserves in Italy too!
INTERVIEW WITH TIZIANA RIVALE
1) Hello Tiziana, what has changed since that distant 1983 in which you unexpectedly won Sanremo
to date?
Hi Maximo. After winning the festival, I noticed that the record management left something to be desired, so I decided to self-produce and since then I record and export my music especially abroad, Europe and North America.
2) Your voice has a lot of Soul black, warm and velvety, one of the most beautiful voices of Italian music, yet you have never had the attention deserved here, while abroad you have a great outcome, why?
As you mentioned, the situation in our country is not based on meritocracy. In fact, this is why I prefer to work abroad where they appreciate me for artistic merit.
3) “It will be what will be” was an incredible success just won Sanremo, then slowly the spotlight on you went out. Do you think it was the fault of the authors or the record companies that have not been able to enhance your extraordinary voice?
It is a sore point. In Italy it goes on for recommendations when it comes to TV, and not only ….
My artistic journey began as a child, with a long and successful mess-tin that formed and strengthened my character, so it is normal for me to be very determined to reach my goal.
4) Tell us about Tiziana Rivale unpublished today, your new musical style, your International Tour, your new album?
I had several experiences, I lived 4 years in Los Angeles and I came back in 1992. Since then I have always been in business, I sing various musical genres and I also recorded a cd in 6 languages: “Babylon 2015” which gives me the possibility to export my music traveling. In fact my last double cd is called “Contact – Yesterday Today Tomorrow”.
5) What do you think about the TV Talent Shows? Would you like to propose yourself as a judge in a Talent?
Often emerging people do not have the mess and copy each other, then they rely on what the system offers that I think does not improve. I do not foresee such a thing for me.
6) You were a singing teacher of Sister Cristina at the Star Rose Academy in Rome …. your professional judgment on Sister Cristina as her teacher?
Sister Cristina was my student for three years when I was a professor at the Star Rose Academy with Franco Simone. She has always loved to sing and our suggestion was to dose the voice to get the right light-dark on each song.
7) In your long artistic career you will surely have had the chance to duet with other artists, of whom you have a memory that more has I stayed in?
I have dueled with various artists, such as: George Aaron, Edoardo Agnelli, Fabrizio Voghera, Luigi Libra, Peter Aresti, Carlo Cori with whom I often sing abroad, and the duet that has remained indelible is that with Ronnie Jones, a myth of disco-music.
8) You have been very close to the great Paolo Limiti, you have worked with him on RAI for several years. What memory do you have of Limiti? How was it professionally and humanly?
From 1997 to 2003 I was in the fixed cast of his program “See you on TV”. Paul was an exceptional person, humanly and professionally and will always be the only one I will thank for the opportunity he gave me. It ‘been a great school to participate in its programs, live every day.
9) According to you who is the most representative Italian musical artist abroad?
I think Zucchero is a versatile artist who is able to compete at a level international.
10) What do you think of the Eurosong contest of this year and of Netta, the Israeli winner?
I could not listen to the songs but I appreciated the remarkable scenography. I remember that unfortunately I was the only one not to be present at the big event when I won the Festival and there is still a mystery about why the record did not let me participate.
11) In your opinion what are the keys to success, for an emerging singer, if there are?
Today it is very difficult to pursue this career, with some television examples that often give a deceptive message. You do not have to pay to perform and never believe those who say: I send you to Sanremo but you have to pay a tot …… These types must be reported! It then depends on the talent (which today puts you in the last place) will, intuition and much luck !!!
12) Your greatest desire as an artist?
I just have to continue my career on a global level and with the web I think of succeed. In fact, I can be reached on the web, on Facebook, on my official website: and my discography is available on iTunes and digital platforms.
Buona musica a tutti!
