Giovanni Butera  oggi è un italiano a Melbourne precursore di quella che possiamo definire fuga degli istruiti professionisti italiani all’estero.

Solo due dati per capire circa 300 mila italiani all’anno ci lasciano.

Lucro cessante: ogni italiano che parte rappresenta un investimento per il paese (oltre che per la famiglia): 90.000 euro un diplomato, 158.000 o 170.000 un laureato (rispettivamente laurea triennale o magistrale) e 228.000 un dottore di ricerca.

Danno emergente: incalcolabile nel caso di professionisti di successo come Giovanni.

Giovanni Butera nasce in Piemonte da una famiglia calabrese, e cresce in Calabria, a Rende. Si trasferisce a Roma e si specializza negli studi economici con grandi soddisfazioni, ma per raccogliere i meriti deve emigrare fino in Australia.

Conosciuto a Melbourne perché, tra le tante cose, è il fondatore e presidente di GAIA Project, un’iniziativa senza fini di lucro destinata a sostenere lo scambio internazionale di artisti svantaggiati. Attualmente è anche amministratore delegato di Nixora Group, una società di consulenza per la gestione del rischio per le banche. La sua esperienza nello sviluppo, implementazione e validazione di modelli di rischio per il settore bancario si è costruita negli anni presso Wipro Technologies, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Capitalia Banking Group-Unicredit e Moody’s Investor Services. 

Ha scritto e pubblicato numerosi articoli per riviste accademiche e importanti università globali come l’Università di Roma, l’Università di Melbourne e il Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology su una vasta gamma di argomenti.  Oltre alla sua vasta esperienza e alle eccezionali borse di studio accademiche, è membro dell’Associazione internazionale dei gestori professionali dei rischi (PRIMA) e dell’Associazione globale dei gestori dei rischi (GARP).

Giovanni da quanti anni sei a Melbourne e perché in questa città?

Sono arrivato a Melbourne per la prima volta nel ’96, dopo aver ottenuto, prima dall’ Università di Roma e poi dalla Regione Calabria, delle borse di studio per la specializzazione all’estero.   

Raccontaci le differenze di opportunità nel mercato italiano e in quello internazionale nel tuo settore

Beh, penso che vi sono diversi gradi di differenze. Sicuramente, il sistema del mondo del lavoro in Australia e’ molto flessibile, in confronto a quello Italiano, ma poi anche la differente congiuntura economica rende i due mercati non proprio paragonabili.  

Negli ultimi anni l’Australia è diventata meta di caccia all’oro di molti italiani segnati dalla crisi. Che ne pensi?

Molti degli italiani che arrivano oggi in Australia sono molto giovani, spesso senza specifiche qualifiche, e quindi un flusso per larga maggioranza diverso da quello che ha caratterizzato l’Australia degli anni ’60 o’90.

Con Gaia porti gli artisti italiani in Australia, come e quando hai pensato fosse necessario fondare un’associazione con questa finalità e come risponde Melbourne e l’Australia alle tue iniziative?

Gaia, cosi come molte iniziative simili, ricevono un consenso diffuso, penso in linea con la cultura anglo sassone del paese.

Cosa ti manca e cosa no del tuo Paese

Dell’Italia mi manca tutto e niente. Tutto, gli amici, i parenti, la cucina (di mia mamma), Roma, la Calabria, …niente, perché dopo tutto non siamo cosi’ lontano (solo un giorno di viaggio!) e ormai si può comprare proprio tutto quello che posso trovare nel supermercato sotto casa dei miei genitori in Calabria.
