“Sine Metu“, the long-awaited new album from historic street punk band Gli Ultimi, will be released on 9 October 2021 by Time To Kill records / Hellnation records. After the preview in June with the song “Tutto Sbagliato” – watch the video below – the Capitoline band releases a second single entitled “Favole” and the song enjoys the videoclip written, designed and directed by ZEROCALCARE.
For the Roman cartoonist, this is the second music video of his career and it is published in advance of the forthcoming release of the TV series he has created for Netflix. In “Favole”, Zerocalcare tells the story, as in a disillusioned modern fable, of a misfit kid from the suburbs who, by chance, meets kindred spirits and becomes passionate about punk culture, thus finding himself growing up in a community that contributes to his formation and identity.
Zerocalcare, stage name of Michele Rech, one of the best-known contemporary Italian comic book artists. He decided on the pseudonym “Zerocalcare” one day when he chose a nickname to take part in one of the first Internet chats and, listening to a television commercial for an anti-calcare product that was being aired at the time, decided to call himself that.
“Favole” is a crucial track for us,” says the band, “because its writing marked the end of that long pause we had taken before resuming playing. It captures that precise moment when we were suspended between the desire to give up and to go on; between disillusionment and the desire for redemption. Fortunately, the second mood took over and “Sine Metu” was born. The collaboration with Michele “Zerocalcare” – concludes the band – fills us with pride; we’ve had a relationship of respect and friendship with him for many years and, among the various samples we sent him, he chose “Favole” to make the video, keeping an old promise we made to each other a few years ago”.
“Sine Metu” sarà presentato dal vivo in due occasioni: un listening party che annunceremo nelle prossime settimane e un live showcase in un club di Roma il 9 ottobre.
BIOGRAFY BAND “GLI ULTIMI”
Ultimi was born in 2008 in a small bar in the Roman province, from an idea of Alessandro Palmieri and Maurizio Papacchioli, respectively guitar and voice of the band. Soon afterwards Path joined the group on bass and Roberto Bernabei on drums, and the band started rehearsing at Muerto Studio in Manziana. The intent is to combine the direct lyrics typical of Oi! and Real Punk, with the more melodic sounds dear to the Punk Rock across the Channel. Towards the end of 2008 they released their first LP, “Streetpunk”, which immediately received much acclaim in the scene and allowed the band to move from the province of Rome and start playing throughout Italy. In 2011 Gli Ultimi record at Temple of Noise in Rome “Questi anni”, an Ep of 3 unreleased tracks and the homonymous Kina cover, with 3 bonus live tracks. In 2012 they released their second LP, “Storie Da Un Posto Qualunque”, 13 tracks produced for the first time by Hellnation Records and recorded at Hombre Lobo Studio, by Valerio Fisik. The album is accompanied by an intense live activity around the boot that grows the fan base date after date. A year later, a 7″ split with Plakkaggio Hc was released, where the bands cover each other’s songs, in the style of Epitaph’s Byo Split. In November 2014 comes the third LP of the band, “Anime Corsare”. An album shared with the historic Roman band Klaxon, a band that has influenced the sound of Gli Ultimi since the beginning. In 2017 the fourth LP, “Tre Volte Dieci”, was released. Shortly after, the band takes a long break and after a line-up change, which sees Alessandro C.. ( formerly in Automatica Aggregazione, Divergenza and The Wild Strings ) take Path’s place on bass, resumes the live activity. In 2019 the first song with the new line-up is released online: “Rimane una canzone”, an acoustic tribute to Angelo “Sigaro” Conti, guitarist and singer of the Banda Bassotti. In November 2020 Gli Ultimi enter the studio to record what will be their fifth LP to be released by Hellnation Records and Time To Kill Records.
