Bitcoin_no-hash-no-cash_lorenzo_giustozziNel mese di Luglio 2015 ho incontrato a Roma Lorenzo Giustozzi, un giovane “bitcoiner” che sembra saperla lunga su questa interessante moneta digitale, per l’esattezza il Bitcoin è propriamente una criptovaluta (o crittovaluta o criptomoneta).
Il Bitcoin sta in qualche modo rivoluzionando in molti giovani matematici e ingegneri l’idea di una nuova forma di  economia monetaria.  L’ implementazione di una criptovaluta si basa sui alcuni  principi provenienti dalla della crittografia che permettono di convalidare le proprie transazioni. Inoltre la crittografia viene anche utilizzate per la generazione della moneta stessa, secondo principi che rispondono a determinate regole che non spiegherò in questo articolo.
Quello che dobbiamo comprendere è che il Bitcoin, come ogni valuta digitale, consente di effettuare pagamenti online in maniera sicura.

lorenzo_giustozziLorenzo è un giovane matematico con una grande energia che utilizza sicuramente al meglio sviluppando le proprie passioni e i suoi diversi interessi.  dopo una lunga conversazione di fronte ad una birra artigianale gustata all’aperto in un chiosco nel quartiere San Paolo, a Roma, decido di fargli una breve intervista. E di farmi raccontare qualcosa si sé e di ciò che sta progettando per il prossimo futuro in merito al Bitcoin.

Seguono una serie di domande a cui Lorenzo Giustozzi ha risposto:

  Parlaci della tua formazione?

Mi sono diplomato in un liceo scientifico e successivamente ho interrotto gli studi lavorando per un paio d’anni in un ristorante, poi, insieme ad un amico, abbiamo deciso di provare la carriera universitaria alla Sapienza iscrivendoci al corso di Scienze e Tecnologie Informatiche della facoltà di Scienza Matematiche Fisiche e Naturali. Una volta conseguita la laurea triennale mi sono iscritto, e sono tuttora in corso, alla laurea specialistica in Informatica, sempre alla Sapienza, scegliendo il curriculum relativo a Network and Security.

Parlaci della tua passione per il Bitcoin

Ho sentito parlare per la prima volta di Bitcoin nel 2010 da parte di un amico, ma inizialmente non gli diedi molto peso. Ho continuato a seguire l’argomento in maniera superficiale fino a febbraio 2014, quando con un gruppo di amici dell’università che frequentavano già la specialistica uscì nuovamente fuori il discorso Bitcoin, in quanto avevano appena seguito una parte del corso di Sistemi Distribuiti con il prof. Alessandro Mei in cui era stato parte dell’esame.

Miner_Mining-Crypto-curency_Bitcoin-MiningInsieme abbiamo deciso di provare a fare “mining” (Generare bitcoin) assemblando un computer , il cosi detto miner, con 6 GPU (processori grafici), c’era appena stato il picco del bitcoin a 1000 dollari e una serie di cryptovalute più giovani stavano prendendo piede (e aumentando di valore), ma presto ci siamo resi conto che era impossibile stare dietro alla velocità con cui aumentava la richiesta di potenza di calcolo e che il prezzo dell’elettricità in Italia andava ad azzerare qualsiasi possibile guadagno, quindi smantellammo tutto.
Sulla scia dell’esperienza maturata con questo esperimento, giunto al momento della scelta dell’argomento per la mia tesi triennale, mi sono messo a studiare in maniera più approfondita il network Bitcoin, ed ho incentrato il mio lavoro sulla creazione di un’autorità di firma a garanzia dei pagamenti senza conferme, sfruttando una nuova caratteristica del protocollo che era stata inserita da poco nel sistema, quella degli indirizzi multisignature.

Dopo la laurea ho cercato di entrare in contatto in maniera più diretta con questa realtà, conoscendo parecchie persone appassionate. In questo modo ho conosciuto dei ragazzi che stavano costituendo un’associazione universitaria dedicata alla blockchain ed alle cryptovalute, il College Cryptocurrency Network Italia (http://www.collegecrypto.it), estendendo un network accademico presente già in tutto il mondo e nato in America nel 2014 dalla fusione dei bitcoin club delle università di Stanford, del MIT e del Michigan . L’atto di fondazione è del 21 dicembre 2014 ed è depositato nella blockchain bitcoin sfruttando un sistema di Proof of Existence, che consiste nell’inserire in una transazione l’hash di un documento come prova temporale della sua esistenza in un dato momento (https://blockchain.info/it/rawtx/ad3215cfd59886058366736b3649728d225be380f115f6b934b69a4e46971d3d). Di questa associazione sono stato vice presidente per il primo semestre, e sono attualmente presidente in carica fino alla fine del 2015.

Quali sono i tuoi progetti per il presente e prossimo futuro?

Ho intenzione di concludere il prima possibile con l’università e sto lavorando anche su alcuni progetti non esclusivamente in ambito Bitcoin. Per quanto riguarda il CCN Italia invece nel prossimo futuro abbiamo come obiettivo quello di far installare nodi Bitcoin in tutte le università dove siamo presenti, per dare uno stimolo agli studenti ad informarsi su questa nuova tecnologia e per far passare il messaggio che il Bitcoin non è SilkRoad, ma un’innovazione seria che  ha la giusta attenzione anche dal mondo universitario.Logo_CCN-Italia

Credi che il biticoin possa innescare una rivoluzione?  se si in che modo?

C’è una frase molto bella che voglio fare mia, “Bitcoin is not the money of Internet, is the Internet of the money“. Bitcoin sta rivoluzionando il concetto di moneta, introducendo questo nuovo paradigma distribuito si sta creando per la prima volta una struttura totalmente autonoma e distaccata da qualsiasi ente centrale che possa, per fare un esempio classico, decidere di immettere sul mercato ingenti somme di denaro con conseguente inflazione. La rivoluzione secondo me sta proprio nel creare un’alternativa alle valute classiche, per la prima volta c’è una scelta. Non penso che il Bitcoin andrà mai a soppiantare le monete locali, è impensabile, ma penso e spero potrà affiancarle.
Molto dipende anche da come si porranno le varie nazioni, cene sono alcune ostiche all’introduzione delle cryptovalute, vedi la Cina, ed in questi luoghi è difficile effettuare il cambio nella valuta locale se non passando tramite altri privati, ma bisogna considerare che anche dal punto di vista tecnologico è un sistema che non può essere totalmente fermato o censurato.
Basti pensare a sistemi come Tor o come Torrent, nonostante tutto continuano ad essere utilizzati.

Pensi che il modello bitcoin possa essere compreso dalle persone?

Per esperienza personale credo che non sia possibile pensare che l’adozione del Bitcoin vada in parallelo con la sua comprensione. Il sistema di per se è complesso, per capire come funziona veramente serve molto tempo e serve intrecciare conoscenze in diversi settori. Il fatto di non poter toccare con mano la moneta crea confusione all’inizio, il concetto di un qualcosa che funziona ” da solo “, senza la presenza di un ente centrale, porta la gente a pensare che dietro ci sia qualche ponzi scheme o qualcosa di simile. Con il tempo, a forza di sentirne parlare, la fiducia in questo sistema aumenterà. Ne sono certo.

Credi che alcuni esercenti possano adottare questa forma di pagamento?

La maggior parte degli esercenti che adottano questo sistema di pagamento attualmente lo fanno attraverso il loro sito web. Questo perché per sua natura questo mezzo di pagamento garantisce i pagamenti che siano stati ricevuti da tutto il network da circa 1 ora. In ogni caso ci sono sistemi alternativi che permettono di accettare pagamenti “live” senza rischi, ad esempio wallet come GreenAddress. C’è una bellissima applicazione, realizzata da uno dei ragazzi del CCN Italia, che racchiude al suo interno quasi tutti gli esercenti fisici in Italia che accettano bitcoin, la potete trovare su http://quibitcoin.it

Veniamo al sodo: come e dove e’ possibile procurarsi bitcoin a Roma?

Fino a poco tempo fa c’era un ATM, al momento è stato spostato. Al momento per acquistare bitcoin, se non si vuole farlo online sui siti principali che si occupano di compravendita, è possibile usare piattaforme come LocalBitcoins o il forum bitcointalk.org per mettersi in contatto con altri utenti e acquistarli in maniera diretta.

Ci sono diversi pub che li accettano, ad esempio lo Yellow Pub di Via Palestro in zona Castro Petrorio, il Beer Time di via Cesio Basso in zona Balduina. C’è un’officina moto sua Via Trionfale, ci sono librerie, hotel, bed and breakfast. Purtroppo non c’è ancora l’offerta adatta per poter comprare tutto quello che è necessario, ma il numero di esercenti è in costante aumento.

Quale il tuo rapporto con la città di Roma?

A Roma sono nato e cresciuto, qui ho tutti i miei affetti, diciamo che è un rapporto di amore ed odio. Uno dei problemi più grossi secondo me è il traffico unito ad un sistema di trasporti pubblici non all’altezza della capitale d’Italia. Per il resto c’è poco da dire, se da tutto il mondo vengono fino a qui, ci sarà un motivo!

Raccontaci alcuni aneddoti che ti sono capitati o di cui hai sentito parlare riguardo il mondo del Bitcoin.

Non ho aneddoti particolari. La prima volta che ho partecipato al Bitcoin Meetup di Roma mi aspettavo di trovare un gruppo di nerds incalliti, invece ho scoperto piacevolmente che la comunità è abbastanza attiva, ci si incontra un paio di volte al mese e ogni volta ci sono persone nuove che si affacciano a questo mondo, a dimostrare la curiosità che suscita questo argomento anche in persone che sono tutto fuorché del settore.
