Isadora Duncan e’ stata una danzatrice statunitense (San Francisco, California, 1877 o 1878 – Nizza 1927). Elaborò uno stile personale basato sulla piena libertà dell’espressione corporea. Sostenitrice della preparazione ginnica del corpo cui gradatamente sarebbe subentrata la danza, la Duncan influenzò profondamente l’evoluzione successiva del balletto. Definita la fondatrice della danza moderna, l’immagine che Isadora cercava di riprodurre nelle sue danze, era l’onda, un’elegante fusione di luce, suono e passi di danza, che simboleggiavano la ciclicità e l’energia della natura, che continuamente si rigenera. Le sue idee, per molti aspetti rivoluzionarie ed in anticipo sui tempi, furono influenzate da una rielaborazione molto personale dei classici e delle opere di Nietzsche. I suoi spettacoli ispirati all’antichità greca e al periodo rinascimentale, in cui esordiva scalza, a chiome sciolte ed avvolta in pepli e veli fluttuanti, ebbero ben presto grande successo in tutta Europa.

In un’epoca in cui il balletto classico era prevalentemente dominato da etoile maschili, la Duncan dei virtuosismi e delle danze anticonvenzionali, che sembravano celebrare l’indipendenza e l’espressione di sé, era adorata dal pubblico femminile.
Era l’imbrunire del 14 settembre del 1927 quando, sulla Promenade des Anglais a Nizza, Benoît Falchetto, un pilota automobilistico italo-francese, offrì il posto del passeggero sulla sua Bugatti alla celebre ballerina. Nel salire sulla potente vettura, prima che la lunga sciarpa che le avvolgeva il collo si impigliasse nelle ruote dell’auto strangolandola, Isadora prese commiato dai suoi amici pronunciando una frase fatale, destinata a restare tristemente famosa:
Adieu, mes amis. Je vais à la gloire!
Ovvero “Addio, amici miei, vado verso la gloria!

VITA E ATTIVITÀ DI ANGELA ISADORA DUNCAN
Figlia di uno scozzese e di una irlandese, conobbe un’infanzia molto povera. Dopo aver studiato danza classica si liberò dei rigori accademici per seguire un insegnamento improntato ai principî di François Delsarte riguardanti l’armonia del corpo e del movimento. Si stabilì quindi a Londra con la famiglia e nel 1900 si recò a Parigi ove danzò in serate private su brani di musica classica.
A piedi nudi, vestita di una semplice tunichetta di tipo greco, si atteggiava in movenze che aveva studiato osservando i bassorilievi dell’arte ellenica. Con questo nuovo tipo di danza, detta “libera” o “naturale”, la D. intese proclamare una libertà di espressione dalle ferree regole accademiche e dagli artifici del balletto classico. La sua danza si diffuse presto in tutta Europa dove influenzò lo stesso balletto classico e l’evoluzione in atto dei balletti russi di S. P. Djagilev. La D. si servì di musiche non espressamente composte per la danza dando l’avvio al balletto sinfonico, portato poi avanti negli anni Trenta da L. Massine. D. si trovò tuttavia nell’impossibilità di insegnare una tecnica vera e propria a causa del suo carattere dispersivo e della discontinuità nell’ispirazione. Fu moglie prima di E. Gordon Craig, poi del poeta russo S. Esenin. Morì strangolata da una sciarpa impigliatasi tra le ruote della sua automobile in corsa. La D. scrisse molti libri, tra cui l’autobiografia My life. Curiosità di Wikipedia: La data di nascita di Duncan è data per il 27 maggio 1878, il suo certificato battesimo pubblicato postumo risale al 26 maggio 1877. Nella sua carriera da Art Director, ha diretto Televisioni,Radio,Magazine,Teatri, e grandi Star della Musica e dello Spettacolo, tra cui la Pop Star Inglese Boy George,per il suo Tour Mondiale negli anni 90", la vincitrice di The Voice of Italy Sister Cristina, e altri artisti come : Franco Simone, Teo Mammuccari, Fabrizio Frizzi, Antonella Ponziani, Claudia Koll...
